Crafts for Sea Turtle Unit Study

There are four crafts for this lesson. Do all four of them or choose the ones you like best. Materials needed for each craft are listed here and on the master materials list.

Bottle Cap Turtle

Turn a bottle cap into a tiny turtle!

  • 1 plastic bottle cap (from milk or juice jug)
  • 2 cotton-tip swabs
  • 1 piece of green construction paper
  • 1 ice cream stick
  • 2 peppercorns or beads
  • Glue
  • Green paint
  • Paintbrush

Turtle Eggs and Walnut Turtles

Make these eggs and turtles.

  • Celia Sea Turtle and Snapper the Snapping Turtle silhouettes
  • Small round balloons, only slightly inflated
  • Papier mache (Tear newspapers into strips and wet in water and flour paste)
  • Poster paint or crayons
  • Walnuts in the shell
  • Construction paper
  • Tracing paper
  • Glue or paste
  • Shallow cardboard box, such as shoe box, or aluminum baking pan
  • Sand, sand paper/or shredded green paper

Turtle Sock Hand Puppets

Make this turtle puppet.

  • Walnut turtle silhouettes
  • Old sock (green, brown or black)
  • Crayons, markers
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Construction paper or adhesive fake earrings
  • Clear adhesive tape
