Pin the Coconut on the Palm Tree

From Angie Bailes, for About.com

Pin the Coconut on the Palm Tree is a fun craft for the kids to make and a fun game too! This is good for a study on Robinson Crusoe, tropical islands, Hawaii, monkeys, etc.

Materials:

  • Felt-green, brown, tan, light blue, and dark blue
  • Large piece of cardboard or a sheet of poster paper/board
  • Cardstock
  • Markers, paint, or crayons
  • Velcro
Cover the bottom half of the cardboard/poster paper with tan felt. Cover the top half with the light blue. Take the dark blue and make the ocean to place between the island(tan) and the sky(light blue).

Cut a palm tree trunk from the brown felt and palm leaves from the green felt and place the palm tree on the island.

To make the coconuts:
Cut circles from cardstock and color them brown. Color them using wavy lines of color to make the effect of fuzz on the coconut.

Glue the bristly part of the velcro to the back of the coconuts.

Place the Cardboard/posterboard palm tree up on a wall and cover the players eyes and give them a coconut and see if they can get it on the palm tree.

Variation: Divide the palm tree into sections and put numbers on them. The players keep score of where their coconuts end up.
