On November 22, 1927, Carl Eliason of Sayner, Wisconsin was issued the first patent for a snowmobile. Eliason built the prototype in a garage behind the general store he ran. Using bicycle parts, ¼ of a radiator from a Ford Model T, and skis that were rope controlled, the first snowmobile was born. Over the next 15 years, the snowmobiles went into production with continuous refinement and development. 40 were built and sold with no three exactly alike.
