Unaware of the peace treaty signed two weeks earlier, 7,500 British troops attack American forces on January 8, 1815. Andrew Jackson had received a warning of the attack and was prepared. With his men heavily entrenched at the Rodriquez Canal, the British soldiers were unable to penetrate the U.S. defenses. In half an hour the British had retreated. British troops had lost over 2,000 soldiers including their General, while American forces lost only 71 men. This was last battle of the War of 1812 and also the last engagement between the United States and Britain.- Star Spangled Banner - Written during the War of 1812
