Concert Under the Stars
Enjoy a summer concert with your family.

Okay, so there were no stars and it was outdoors in 95 degree heat...I spent a weekend in Visalia, California, with my family and attended the Mission Fest concert.

My daughter had joined the FFH fan club and received backstage passes to one of their concerts. She's been watching and waiting for them to come to California, and they finally did...but in Visalia, a desert community in California.

So, armed with a blanket, lawn chairs, sun screen and an ice chest full of bottled water, we sat out in the hot sun and baked while enjoying the music of six Christian bands and artists. The artists featured were some of the top names in contemporary Christian music: Eli, Ginny Owens, FFH, Sonic Flood, Point of Grace and Third Day.

There was great music, great food and great fun...but the highlight of the concert were those backstage passes! We were able to go behind the scenes and meet the members of FFH for autographs and pictures.

We had a great trip and enjoyed the concert immensely. If you have the opportunity to attend a concert with your family, I highly recommend it. Our city periodically has "under the stars" community concerts where you bring your lawn chairs and enjoy music outside, under the stars, on a cool summer evening. It is a great family time and a great way to instill an appreciation for different types of music in your children and help meet the fine arts requirement at the same time. So, check out your community and see what's available in your area. Most of the community events are free or very inexpensive. I would suggest that if you attend a daytime concert, bring an umbrella for shade!
