The
Heart of Wisdom Curriculum is a collection of Bible-based unit studies -
a map that will guide students through real-life experiences using
writing-to-learn activities, living books, and Christian materials while
interacting in a meaningful way with the massive amounts of information
available on the Internet! It is written for grades 7-12, but is adaptable
for younger students.
Each Heart of Wisdom lesson is organized into four steps from the 4Mat System - Excite, Examine, Expand, and Excel. These four steps teach to all four learning styles and both brain hemispheres based on the 4Mat System. Studies show that this four-step method motivates students to comprehend the material better and retain the information longer.
These unit studies will eventually include 4 volumes of history, science and life skills, twelve volumes in all. The first volume, "Ancient History: From Adam to Messiah," is available online and almost ready for print. They were designed for grades 7-12, but are adaptable for younger students. The following subjects are included:
- Bible
- History
- Science
- Language arts, composition, and literature
- Art history
There is an extensive online teacher's guide (free access). It covers all aspects of teaching the curriculum from the philosophies and goals behind the curriculum to portfolios, high school credits and college planning. I suggest spending a great deal of time exploring this guide.
The curriculum can be purchased in print form, accessed online, or a combination of both. The online version has an advantage over the print form because it is accessible before the print version and the hotlinks are kept current. This curriculum uses many resources, some you'll want to purchase, some you'll borrow from the library, and some are available online.
The reason I like this Ancient History study is because it covers a time frame from creation through the ministry of Jesus and includes a study of ancient Israel. I like the mixture of using print resources with resources available on the internet. I am looking forward to seeing the remaining units as they are completed.
We have already begun our study of the world using this curriculum and the suggested resources. It is easy to use and well laid out.
