Iowa State Capitol

The Iowa State Capitol in Des Moines stands as one of the nation's finest examples of 19th century architecture. The commanding feature of the building is the towering dome, constructed of steel and stone and covered with 23-carat gold leaf. The golden dome, which can be seen for miles, is a symbol of Iowa's government and politics and a reminder of the true spirit of Iowa.
