The Sweet Tooth Factory

A fun unit study on fractions.

By Beverly Hernandez, About.com

The students involved in this task will go into The Sweet Tooth Factory. While in the factory, the students will help the workers with various fraction tasks. They will help one worker identify fractions, then help another by cutting things into fair shares and then compare fractions with the last worker. In doing these things, the students will be using a variety of strategies to gain a better understanding of fractions as a whole, a part of a set, fair shares, and ordering and comparing fractions.
