Getting Out the Door

Wednesday March 28, 2007
Works For Me!Like I mentioned in my Dream Come True post, I have a new get ready to go routine for the kids. I have the 2 oldest be buddies with the 2 youngest and they have a list that they are to start 30 minutes before we leave. I post this list by the door. My 8 year old son really liked it because instead of "Before We Go" it says "B 4 We Go" that's kind of silly, but that's what works for him! :)

Here is a picture of our little list:

Before We Go

The list reads like this:

Timothy (8) and Josiah (4):

Wash hands and face
Put on lotion
Put on shoes
Get stuff put by door
Check diaper bag for diapers and wipes for Maury (newborn)
Get book, sit on bench and read to your buddy

Katie Ann (6) and Nathan (1 1/2)

Wash hands and face
Put on lotion
Put on shoes
Get stuff put by door
Get bottle and diaper for Nathan and put in diaper bag
Get book, sit on bench and read to your buddy

I am usually helping in these tasks, getting the baby ready and getting myself ready while all of this is going on. I find it helps that I don't have to keep all the things in my list in my head, I can just yell out "keep following the list" once in a while.

I know that's pretty simple, but that's what works for me!

That’s a great idea! I bet my kids would LOVE this and it would sure make getting out the door less hectic.

Right now, I end up having 6 people in the same room, stepping all over each other, trying to put on their shoes and coats. I always end up yelling, someone always ends up crying, yadda yadda …

I think I’ll try out your idea!!

Thanks!

What a great idea, and I love the way you worded your sign by the door.

I only have two children, and I sometimes have trouble getting out the door. I can imagine this is a must, (some kind of system) when you have more children.
