Keeping up the Kitchen
Works For Me Wednesday
I've lived in a few different houses and have tried to homeschool in 3 of them. I've found that in order to keep our days running smoothly, I need (ok, I don't need, but it helps) to have the kitchen next to the homeschool area. That way I can handle meals and kitchen clean up and still be on hand for the kids.
The thing that has helped me the most in keeping up the kitchen is to set my timer and work in there for 15 minutes each morning. I usually have to pause the timer a few times and start it again, but I do get the 15 minutes completed. I also have Kitchen Day on Tuesday and that is when I clean out the fridge, clean the stove, etc. For meals, I try to make sure the table gets cleaned off and the dishes rinsed afterwards, mostly for protection from our tornado 1 year old.
If I keep up with those things, things flow pretty well and the kitchen is neat and tidy livable most of the time. That's what works for me!

My kitchen needs some serious TLC! I’m afraid I’d have to set a timer for at least an hour to make any headway!
I like your idea though!
Thanks for commenting on my stainless-steel ball whisk post. I hope you indulge and buy yourself one. You’ll LOVE it!
My Peanut has been re-named Tornado too! I also try and wipe down the kitchen every Tuesday. Doesn’t always get done but it’s on the schedule. It’s surprising how much can be done in 15 minutes. Great tips. Thanks for sharing.
You know, isn’t that true that if you keep up, it’s always easier? Not that I do…I swear my kitchen messes itself up. But you’re right…a few minutes a day, and at least it’s presentable!
I don’t homeschool, but I still feel like if the kitchen is neat and orderly, the house runs smoother. Isn’t that interesting!?
I agree that when the kitchen is kept clean, the whole house runs better. Our eat-in kitchen will be our homeschooling area in the new house, so I’ll have to set up some type of system like this.
LOL…I love my timer. I’ve been using it more and more. It makes me feel like I’ve accomplished something, and keeps me on track. We use it for homeschool as well Great tip!
Hey, we kill two birds with one stone (although I don’t advocate stoning birds) by homeschooling IN the kitchen!
