Homeschooling experience

Ryan's Homeschool journey began in 7th grade. Since then he worked hard on his High School studies, while also taking classes at the local Community College. He has accumulated 47 credits at the college with a 4.0 GPA. By working through vacations and summer breaks, Ryan also fulfilled his High School requirements one year early, and has graduated High School with a total 4.0 GPA. We are very proud of his accomplishments!

Accomplishments/Future Goals

Ryan's passion is music and theater arts. Over the past 8 years he has appeared in more than 30 professional productions including plays, movies, and traveling troupe performances. Ryan has also studied film making and has produced several of his own films. In his free time he has volunteered as a Summer Camp Counselor at a Theater camp teaching young actors how to follow their dreams. Ryan also plays electric and acoustic guitar, piano, and harmonica. He has written music for several theater productions and leads his local band, Moonlight Harbor. Homeschooling has allowed him the time to give his all to these activities. Ryan is currently pursuing his Associates Degree in Computer Information Systems and plans to transfer to ASU Polytechnic shortly to earn his BAS degree in Software and Computer Systems with an emphasis on Cyber-security.

Advice

  • There is always a way!
  • When someone tells you no, find a compromise!
  • I think our biggest challenge has been fitting in everything Ryan wanted to do. There are so many opportunities for teens these days, learning to prioritize your time can be a challenge. We have even resorted to Pro and Con lists on some occasions to make the best decisions possible. These can help one find his true path.
  • In the end, follow your heart and things will fall into place.
