Field Trip Description

Tanaka Farms is a real working farm with tours year round. They have Strawberry Tours from March to June, Watermelon Tours during July and August, Pumpkin Patch in October and Christmas Trees in December.

Highlights

We went on the Pumpkin Patch Field Trip with our homeschool group. We rode a tractor-pulled wagon up to the petting zoo. The animals were goats and sheep and were very friendly and clean. It was a pleasant experience. They provided hand sanitation afterward.

From there, we rode the wagon back down and went through the corn maze. That was my first corn maze. We enjoyed it. The kids were ready to run around a bit, so the maze came at a good time.

After the maze, we went to the vegetable fields and each child got to pick 4 of each vegetable: green onions, green beans, radishes and carrots. We learned how to properly pick each vegetable.

Next, we went to the pumpkin patch and chose our pumpkins. The kids were allowed to pick a pumpkin up to 20 pounds, but each child had to be able to carry their own pumpkin, so smaller kids had smaller pumpkins. We were able to see pumpkins at different stages of growth.

We went over to the park and had a picnic lunch after the field trip.

On the way home, we ran over a large metal object on the freeway and ended up with 2 flat tires, a bent rim and a broken hubcap, costing a whopping $530 to fix. You might want to skip that part of our trip.
