Learning About Clams - Crafts

Crafts for Clam Unit Study

There are four crafts for this lesson. Do all four of them or choose the ones you like best. Materials needed for each craft are listed here and on the master materials list.

Paper Plate Clam

  • One paper plate (not plastic)
  • One drinking straw, cut into two halves
  • Clam Shell (two halves that fit together)
  • Construction paper - two different colors - about 1/8 sheet of each
  • Scissors
  • Glue and/or tape

Terra Cotta Clam

This is a cute craft.

  • DecoArt Patio Paint Cloud White
  • DecoArt Patio Paint Foxglove Pink
  • DecoArt Patio Paint Petunia Purple
  • DecoArt Patio Paint Wrought Iron Black
  • Craft glue, thick
  • Paintbrush, flat, 3/4"
  • Paintbrush, liner, No. 0
  • 2 Plugs, 3/4"
  • Styrofoam balls, 3", cut in half
  • 2 Terra cotta saucers, 3-1/4"
  • Water container

Potpourri Clam Shell Holder

Adult help is required for this craft.

  • Potpourri
  • 2 Pearl Beads
  • Clam Shell (two halves that fit together)
  • Hot glue gun
  • Posterboard
  • Paint or Markers (optional)

Clam Shell Change Holder

Adult help required (if using hot glue).

  • A clam shell( if you don't have a beach near you, use a shell from the stuffed clams that you buy from the gorcery store)
  • Black, gold and silver paint
  • Three wooden beads with out holes(or any large bead)
  • Hot glue or any strong craft glue
  • High gloss spray sealer - spray or paint on
