Thumbprint Coconuts

From Angie Bailes, for About.com

Thumbprint Coconuts is a fun (and very easy) craft for the kids to make. This is good for a study on Robinson Crusoe, tropical islands, Hawaii, monkeys, etc.

Materials:

You can do this project two ways:
  1. Print the Palm Trees Coloring Page.
Give each child a piece of paper and small container with brown paint in it. (I use the small plastic container I get from the pizza place with the butter/pizza sauce in. I just wash them out and reuse them. An advantage to them, they come with lids if all the paint is not used.)

Have the kids dip their thumbs into the paint then press onto the palm tree to make the coconuts.

  2. Give each child a piece of plain paper and paint/markers/crayons/etc. and let them draw a palm tree on it.
After the palm tree has dried(if painted) give them brown paint and follow the steps in the first choice.
