Paper Plate Monkeys

Paper Plate Monkeys is a fun craft for the kids to make and is a great companion to the Paper Mache Palm Tree! This is good for a study on Robinson Crusoe, tropical islands, Hawaii, monkeys, etc.

Materials:

• Paper plates- large and small
• Brown, black, tan and red paint/marker/crayon
• White cardstock
• Brown construction paper
• Glue
• Stapler

For the head:

1. Color/paint 2 large plates brown and 1 small plate tan.
2. After they are dry, put glue around the edge of the large plate and place the other on top of it and let dry.
3. Take the small plate and glue it in the middle of the large plate and let dry.
4. Now cut two eyes from the cardstock and glue onto the plates right above the small plate.
5. Take the black and make circles on the eyes.
6. Take the red and make a tongue coming out under the small plate.
7. Cut 2 ear shapes from the cardstock and paint/color them tan, let dry, then glue them to the plates.

Body:

1. Color 2 large plates brown.
2. Color a small plate tan.
3. Staple the bottom of the small plate to one of the large ones, leaving the top open to place things in.
4. Glue the 2 large plates together.
5. Staple the head to the body.

Arms/Legs:

1. Take brown construction paper and cut 2 arms, 2 legs and 1 tail.
2. Glue or staple to the body.

This monkey can be put in your palm tree and treasure hunt clues, birthday cards, tree mail, etc. put in the small plate. Optional game: Match the bananas to the monkeys: Materials:

• Paper plate monkeys
• Bananas made from construction paper or cardstock
• Cardstock strips

You can make this for various skills:

- Matching lowercase to capital letters
- Matching colors
- Matching numbers
- Math problems and answers

The bananas are placed into the monkeys.
