Our Homeschool Schedule

Schedule for Special Needs - Autism, Dyslexia, and ADHD (from Mary Ruth)

By Beverly Hernandez, About.com

I have a special needs child with several diagnoses such as high-functioning autism, dyslexia, and ADHD plus a couple more. I have a time schedule to help move us along but sometimes it goes by the wayside.
  • We start at 9 am with worship, Bible reading, vs memorization. That takes about 35 min.

  • Then we take a 10 min break.

  • Then comes math which is very hard for him. He does math for 30 min.

  • Then is spelling. We do spelling for about 20 min.

  • Then there is language arts with reading, journaling, grammar. We take 45 min - 1hr. Most of the time, this takes about 15 min longer than planned.

  • Then it is unit time. We have a unit based on my son's interests. That takes about 45 min - 1 hr.

  • Then comes the subject of the day. One day is science if it sn't covered in the unit. Then there is history, music/art, typing, handwriting. We do a short 15-20 min session depending on the day and my son's interests.
Because of his challenges, he has therapy which takes time. We have a good day if we finish within an hour of the planned time.
