By , About.com Guide

Barron's has a new series of phonics-based books for young readers. Two nine-book sets help children to progress in their reading skills. Level 1 covers short vowel families and Level 2 covers long vowel families.
Each book has colorful illustrations or attractive photos. The fiction titles are colorfully illustrated and have story lines that range from fun to serious. They have a fun activity relating to the story and a word list. The nonfiction titles have photo illustrations and include plenty of fun facts. They also include a glossary, index and suggested websites to explore the topic further. All the books include a letter to parents with the fundamental concepts in the series and the individual title.

Barrons also offers a Reader's Clubhouse Website with printable activities to reinforce the lessons from the books. You'll find a printable reading log, games and other printable activities. There is a section for parents and teachers with ideas and tips to help children have fun with books and grow to love reading.
