Young Entrepreneurs

Lemonade Stand and Fire-Starter Buckets

By , About.com Guide

My nine-year-old son has been a little entrepreneur from the tender age of three. He first began selling lemonade. Because he was able to earn $35.00 in his first week of operation, his grandfather decided to build him a bona fide Lemonade stand. Over the years he has added Otter Pops and Snow Cones to the menu. The days following 9/11 he sold Snow Cones and earned $138.56 to donate to the New York Firefighters.

This year William decided that he needed to earn money for Christmas gifts. I took him to the local discount store and with a $10 investment, purchased some cute tin buckets and fire-starter sticks. With the neighbors permission, William collected pinecones for his project. He packaged his fire-starter buckets, set them in his wagon and off he went. In less than 45 minutes he had sold five buckets at $10.00 each!
