1940 - Lascaux Cave Paintings Discovered
On September 12, 1940, four teenagers following their dog down a narrow entrance to a cavern discovered the Lascaux Cave Paintings in France. The vast rockshelter contains about 600 paintings and almost 1,500 engravings. K. Kris Hirst, About.com Guide to Archaeology, says that Lascaux Cave is one of the world's great treasures.

1913 - Jesse Owens' Birthday
Olympian Jesse Owens won 4 gold medals at the Berlin Olympic Games in track and field. Jesse Owens was given the name James Cleveland Owens when he was born in Alabama on September 12, 1913. I love the story of how his name changed to Jesse Owens. From birth he went by the nickname J.C. until he was 9 and his family moved to Cleveland, Ohio. The new school teacher was told that his name was J.C., she misunderstood and wrote down Jesse in the roll book. That's how he became Jesse Owens.

National Chocolate Milkshake Day
September 12th is National Chocolate Milkshake Day. Celebrate by enjoying a chocolate milkshake today. The coloring page has the basic chocolate milkshake recipe. Adventurous? Try adding some new add-ins like malted milk balls, cherries, banana and top with whip cream, sprinkles and a cherry.
