1913 - Jesse Owens' Birthday
Olympian Jesse Owens won 4 gold medals at the Berlin Olympic Games in track and field. Jesse Owens was given the name James Cleveland Owens when he was born in Alabama on September 12, 1913. I love the story of how his name changed to Jesse Owens. From birth he went by the nickname J.C. until he was 9 and his family moved to Cleveland, Ohio. The new school teacher was told that his name was J.C., she misunderstood and wrote down Jesse in the roll book. That's how he became Jesse Owens.
