Nobel Prize Established
On November 27, 1867, Alfred Bernard Nobel left the bulk of his estate to establish the Nobel Prize. Alfred Nobel was a Swedish chemist, engineer and innovator remembered for his invention of dynamite and for the bequest that created the Nobel prizes.
1910 - Penn Station Opened
Pennsylvania Station opened on November 27, 1910. Alexander J. Cassatt was president of the Pennsylvania Railroad Company and was responsible for the planning of Pennsylvania Station. Penn Station was a masterpiece of the Beaux-Arts style and an architectural jewel of New York City. In 1963, demolition began of part of the complex, the head-house and train shed. The tracks remained untouched. It is one of the busiest stations in the world.
Pins and Needles Day
