June 16th - Roller Coasters, Fords and Fudge
On June 16th, learn about the first roller coaster, the Ford Motor Company and make some fudge!

First Roller Coaster Opened
On June 16, 1884, the first roller coaster opened at Coney Island in Brooklyn, New York. The gravity powered roller coaster was invented by LaMarcus Thompson. It cost 5 cents to ride the "Thompson Switchback Railway."

Ford Motor Company Incorporated
The Ford Motor Company was incorporated on June 16, 1903. Henry Ford pioneered mass production of automobiles with the invention of the moving assembly line in 1913. The Model T was introduced in 1908, followed by the Model A in 1927. The most popular Ford automobile would have to be the Ford Mustang.

National Fudge Day
June 16th is National Fudge Day. I learned how to make fudge many years ago. My favorite recipe is the Fantasy Fudge recipe that used to be on the back of Kraft Marshmallow Creme jar. The recipe on the jar has changed, but I still make the original recipe. I don't know why they changed it.
