Kentucky Admission Day
Kentucky became the 15th state on June 1, 1792. Kentucky is located in the east central United States and is famous for breeding race horses. The Kentucky Derby is oldest continuously held horse race in the country. Frankfort is the capital of Kentucky and is considered one of the most picturesque capitals in the United States. Kentucky is known as the Bluegrass State.
Tennessee Admission Day
Tennessee became the 16th state on June 1, 1796. Tennessee is located in the east central United States. Nashville is the capital of Tennessee and is known as "Music City, USA." The Grand Ole Opry is the longest continuously-running live radio program in the world. It has broadcast every Friday and Saturday night since 1925!
Flip a Coin Day
June 1st is Flip a Coin Day. Coin flipping or coin tossing is used to settle differences or make choices. Coin tosses are used in sports to determine which teams go first, as in the Super Bowl. Sometimes people get a little creative with coin tosses...beware of "Heads I win, tails you lose." It's a trick.
