The Eiffel Tower is a wrought iron tower 324 meters high that was constructed in Paris in 1889. For many years it was the tallest man-made structure. French engineer Alexandre Gustave Eiffel designed and constructed the tower. It was built for the entrance arch to the 1889 World’s Fair. The Eiffel Tower was inaugurated on March 31, 1889 and opened on May 6, 1889. Eiffel had a permit for the tower to stand for 20 years.
