1765 - Eli Whitney Birthday
Eli Whitney was born on December 8, 1765, in Westborough, Massachusetts. Eli Whitney is most known for the invention of the Cotton Gin. A cotton gin is a machine that separates the seeds from raw cotton fibers. His invention didn’t make him a fortune, but it did earn him a lot of fame. He is also credited with inventing a musket with interchangeable parts.

1941 - Roosevelt Declares War on Japan
On December 8, 1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt declared war on Japan in response to the bombing of Pearl Harbor.

National Brownie Day
December 8th is National Brownie Day. A brownie is a square or bar of very rich chocolate cake, with or without nuts. Have your children help bake brownies and include them in your Christmas baking for gift giving. Fun tidbit: Okmulgee, Utah, has the world record for the largest pecan brownie.
