The Sock Box (from LoriMyers)

By Beverly Hernandez, About.com

My wonderful husband is so brilliant! We've had an ongoing "sock problem" in our house for...well, ever, actually. As the parents of four boys 8, 7, 4 and almost 2, our laundry is/was virtually OVERRUN with socks to the point where we actually dedicated a WHOLE laundry basket to store newly laundered socks, which we charmingly named, "the sock box". So, needless to say, finding clean socks for the day was bit like playing the game "Concentration"....So, my husband says, why don't we have the boys safety pin their dirty socks together BEFORE putting them in the hamper? Sounded logical to me....so, I used a pin holder (magnet based) or you can use a pin cushion - doesn't matter, secured it to the top of the washing machine with adhesive velcro squares (available at any fabric store) and loaded it with safety pins. SOOOO, now the boys pin their socks together BEFORE adding them to the dirty clothes hamper! The safety pins REMAIN on the socks until they are removed from the dryer and then paired EFFORTLESSLY! It has absolutely saved time and energy. I now, thanks to this new method, feel like a more ORGANIZED Mama...how cool is that? With six family members wearing 1-2 pair of socks a day it has solved the "sock box" issue and we no longer "HUNT" for socks, which used to be VERY time consuming and frustrating. My husband is so WONDERFUL.....see, the miracles that can occur when you team-parent? *~*
