Organization Tips from Homeschoolers

Color Coded (from Lue)

By Beverly Hernandez, About.com

I use a teacher's plan book too. I use different color pens for each child lessons, and a third color for classes that both participae in. I need to add another color this year since my 3 yo wants to "play school" this year. I am going to let her "play" too. :D This way I can tell see quickly what each child needs to do next. I use different color highlighters for tests, quizes, and homework. I know right away to check for homework at the beginning of each class.

Our school text books are kept in a tall (about 8 ft.) metal cabinet that my husband got at work. It was free since they were going to throw it out. It has a small dent in it, and the latches are missing from the door. Someone had put some sort of hasp (I think that is what it is called) on it too keep it closed. We just painted it with some paint that we had on hand and it looks pretty good. The 2 school age kids share a shelf with the teachers keys and cirriculum on the shelf above them. We also have art supplies in plastic tubs in the cabinet. I am still trying to organize them since we have so much. (favorite gift idea of grandma). I also need to make room for the 3 yo in there.

Another thing I use to store supplies like markers, extra pencils, pens, etc. is baby wipe boxes. These are quite plentiful in our house right now. Some of the boxes last longer than others but it seems there is a always a replacement available. :-D

I am still looking for a place high enough for the markers to keep 3 yo out. Her sisters help her get them out--need to hide them from those two. They all like to draw.
