Rutherford B. Hayes (November 19, 1831 – September 19, 1881) was the 20th President of the United States. While he was in office he dealt with the Star Route Scandal and the American Red Cross was founded by Clara Barton. President Garfield was shot on July 2, 1881, remained in a hospital for weeks and later taken to New Jersey seaside where he died September 19, 1881.
