Jimmy Carter (born October 4, 1924) was the 39th President of the United States. He believed the president shouldn't be treated differently than others, so he made sure people called him Jimmy. While he was in office he combated inflation and unemployment. He established full diplomatic relations with China and negotiation of, but not ratification of the SALT II nuclear limitation treaty with the Soviet Union. 52 Americans were held hostage and released upon his leaving office.
