The picture books with science, math and nature themes excite children’s imaginations through fun stories, vibrant artwork and a 3-5 page “For Creative Minds” educational section in the back of each book. But that is just the start…what really makes the books unique, is their tremendous amount of free, online educational material available for cross-curricular learning, including: 30-80 page Teaching Activities, Interactive Reading and Math Quizzes, and much more. The Sylvan Dell team has 57 authors and illustrators and the 35 titles have been honored as nominees, finalists, or winners of more than 50 book awards.
The set up is very simple to use. Click on Sylvan Dell Publishing eBooks and the page with the eBook covers will open. Click on the book of your choice and it will open in another window in the Sylvan Dell Publishing reader. See the last 3-5 pages of each book for the "For Creative Mind's educational section. Click on "Book Homepage" from the top of the eBook reader for additional resources: printable worksheets, coloring pages, activity suggestions and interactive quizzes.
I hope you and your children will love these eBooks and the free online educator resources available for each title.
Here are a few tips from Sylvan Dell to optimize eBook viewing:
- Before viewing, always load the cache memory by very quickly clicking through each page (you don't need to wait for each image to display) and then fast return to the beginning. This lets you begin viewing the early pages, while later pages are generating in the background, and makes the page flipping like a rocket.
- We recommend pressing F11 to cause your browser to show the page as full screen.
- Before showing the eBooks, we recommend opening the respective book's homepage to see the Questions to ask before and after reading the book (found in the Teaching Activities) and click through the For Creative Minds section and the 3 interactive quizzes.
- There is a learning curve, and teachers should play with the eBooks and get comfortable before showing to anxious children.
