Charts and Graphs is a topic that's covered all through school, from Kindergarten through 9th grade. The first time I realized that my children needed to learn this topic was when my daughter took the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills in the third grade. There was a whole section on maps, charts and graphs on the test. We had not covered the material - my daughter was devastated. She thought it was unfair that she was being tested on material that she was never taught. After that experience, I purchased Modern Curriculum Press Maps, Charts and Graphs workbooks. My children really liked the books and learned a lot from them. They did well on this section of the achievement tests from then on. But more important than that, they learned life skills that they still use today.
You can teach these topics using online resources as well as purchasing print materials to use. I've collected links for online lessons at different levels to help you cover this topic.
