This is in response to:
- My Article HELP! I Can't Take it Anymore!
- D.G.'s Letter Unsympathetic Public School Teacher
When I received the email from D.G. assumingly setting us straight on what teaching is all about, my head was spinning. Besides wondering what my article had to do with public schools, I had too many thoughts to sort through to write a response to him. I decided to pass the email on to my subscribers and forum members for their thoughts and feelings.
The responses overwhelmingly express what I feel and I am, therefore, gathering them here for Mr. D.G. and emailing him the link to this article.
Dear Mr. D.G.,
First off, my article was written to homeschoolers who I know lead stressful lives and can get burnt out. After personally homeschooling for 16 years, I have first hand experience in the things that homeschoolers go through. My article, in no way, even hinted at the overcrowding of public schools. It had nothing at all to do with the public schools or public school teachers. It was not intended to solicit your sympathy...or anyone's sympathy, for that matter. It was an attempt to reach out to the struggling homeschooling parent who is feeling the stresses and pressures that are unique to homeschoolers.
As you will see, the majority of homeschoolers are sympathetic to the public school teachers. We do wish you well and wish that your working conditions were better. But we are doing what we feel in our hearts and know in our heads is the best for our children at this time.
The responses in the forum were so heartfelt and sincere, I don't think I could do justice in portraying the hearts of these parents to you. With all due respect, Mr. D.G., here are their responses to you. I hope that you read each and every one.
Thank you,
Beverly Hernandez
