Matthew
22:35-39
One
of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: "Teacher,
which is the greatest commandment in the Law?"
Jesus replied: "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with
all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest
commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'
Love God:
Let's look closely at what the verse above says. Love the Lord your God... let's stop here:
Is the Lord Your God?
Meaning, have you asked Him to be the one in control, guiding and
leading you?
Moving on, 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.'
Do
you love God with all of your heart and soul and mind?
Before you answer, stop and think... With all of your heart - is
God the person you love the most? With
ALL of your mind - Do the things that you think about reflect that you
love God?
What are some ways that you can grow in you love
for God?
Love Your Neighbor:
'Love your neighbor as yourself.' Think of some of the things you do for yourself, in love of yourself. For example, you eat many times a day because YOU are hungry, you wear clothes so that YOU will look nice, you fix your hair before YOU go out so that it's not sticking out everywhere (or maybe you make it stick out everywhere) you eat sweets or candy or things that YOU enjoy, we could go on forever.
Do
you have a love for those around you or are you usually seeking what they
might do for you? Maybe
sometimes it's a little of both?
Do
you do things for others even if it means that you will have to give up
something that is important to you?
