Listen to Your Child

From

I'm still new to homeschooling with my oldest dd in K. In that very short time I have found out:

1) When frustrated take the day off.

2) When your child refuses to do a subject, let it go. Even if it is for a week. During that time think of different and hopefully fun ways to reintroduce that subject back in.

3) Be flexible. I have had more success teaching them in mom's forbidden bedroom and out side than at a table.

4) Rewards, incentives, and sometimes bribes help get the work done without complaints.

5) You are not stuck to the PS schedule in any way, shape, or form. When they are in school you do not have to be. When they are out of school, you can still teach. You can take a trip to grandma's in the morning and do school work in the late afternoon or evening.

6) Listen to your kids, what they tell you, and what they want. Things will go a lot smoother. Listen to yourself and what you need. You can't function if half of you is somewhere else worrying, contemplating, screaming, crying, or etc.

Stop. Deal with your emotions first. You need to be there for your child, and not just physically. Take a break no matter how long you need. Do not let a martyr mentality set in where you always put your self last, because it will lead to resentment, frustration, and depression. You are important, and your needs also need to be met.

7) Praise God and thank Jesus that you have this wonderful opportunity to be able to homeschool your child. It is a privilege that not everyone has.
