Guide Review - The Great Grammarian
The Great Grammarian is a great way to get kids excited about grammar. Play is similar to a traditional trivia game. Players move around the gameboard, answering questions about different topics of grammar. The object of the game is to get a "gold star" in each of six categories: Spelling, Usage, Definitions, Vocabulary/Editing, Punctuation and Grammar. Along the way, players earn plastic star that can be traded in for gold stars. The questions on the cards are fun and interesting, sparking conversation and discussion of grammar rules. I found the spelling cards to be a bit confusing, but they were still educational. I wasn't exactly sure what the "question" was, but the words and rules presented were of value.
The game is designed for team play, but works well for individual play also. Younger children can be paired with older children. The discussion involved to arrive at the answer is invaluable. I recommend The Great Grammarian for homeschooling families. It would work well for coop classes or getting together with friends.
For 2nd grade and above.
