Tips for a Successful Homeschool Convention

For the first time homeschooler, a homeschool convention and book fair can be quite overwhelming. You are bombarded with an over abundance of information, views and resources. It is very easy to overspend on things you don't really need and often don't ever use.

Here are some tips to make the homeschool convention a more enjoyable and successful time for you:

Make it a special day...

  • Leave children at home
  • Go with your husband or a friend
  • Plan a nice lunch

The Homeschool Convention Workshops

  • Choose workshops that sound interesting to you
  • Choose workshops age appropriate for your children
  • Not all methods of homeschooling are for everyone
  • Don't take any one teaching as the "only way"
  • Feel free to leave one workshop and catch the tail end of another

The Homeschool Convention Curriculum Hall

  • To avoid impulse buying and overspending, leave checkbook and credit cards at home
  • Take small amount of cash
  • Pick up catalogs
  • Listen to demonstrations and take notes
  • Go back and look again at what caught your eye
