Start the school year off with a Back to School Party...it can be a private affair on your first day of school or you can invite family and friends.
If this is your first year homeschooling, you might want to make a big deal of the beginning of the school year. Invite grandparents and others over and let them share in the excitement. Let them browse through the school books and supplies you've gathered. Including family members in the beginning might help to answer some of their questions and put their minds at ease. It is also a good time to establish your school time as important and a priority in life. Maybe have a sample daily schedule on a poster, so others can get an idea of the time you're available to chit-chat or visit, and the time that you'd like uninterrupted for your homeschooling.
