Postive media on homeschooling

Monday March 10, 2008
Kelly Cobiella did some excellent reporting about homeschooling on the CBS Morning Show. This comes at a time when homeschooling is under attack in California, making it very refreshing to watch. I hope you enjoy these two videos: Part I explores different ways to homeschool including the Classical Approach, Eclectic and Unit Study Approach. Part II explores reasons why some families homeschool. One of the families in this segment is using Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons. As a sidenote... the homeschool mom is wearing my favorite sweater/blouse. I'm pretty sure you all wanted to know that.

It is great to see positive media about homeschooling. As a parent that homeschools it seems that all we hear about it in the news is the bad. It is a wonderful lifestyle that many choose and I wish it was more widely accepted by those who don’t.

I am a homeschool mom. I have one thing to say. Just like having tattoos, if you don’t, we don’t care. Why are we always under attack? We are not attacking anyone’s decision to put their kids in public schools. I just pray for those a little more. Shalom

I am glad homeschooling was presented in a positive light!! Notice they only interviewed moms who were teaching ONE child. :o ) I wonder what this would have looked like with several many-kid families, like mine. LOL. It’s too chaotic here to make a good impression on the general public, but learning happens anyway.

There are some great resources for homeschoolers, such as free streaming video of classic literature, at the Adam Smith Academy:
