Before my kids even reached school age, I became alarmed as I read about the sorry state of textbooks. Science in particular is one subject where information is always changing and being updated. Yet textbooks are created by teams of workers who simply copy the mistakes from one edition into the next.
More than 10 years ago, North Carolina State University physics professor John Hubisz released a study that found middle school textbooks were rife with errors. After that, I began putting together my own science teaching plans, using resources from our local library and online. They served us well enough to allow my older son to be accepted to an engineering college.
My new article lists some of the best science resources available to homeschoolers who want to take a step up from questionable textbooks.
Do you think science textbooks have improved over the years? What are your favorite science resources?
