Happy Independence Day!

By July 4, 2013

Follow me on:

Reading the DeclarationToday, as we always do on July 4th, my family biked down to the Saratoga National Historical Park, site of what has been called the most important battle of the 20th century.

There we heard Park Ranger Joe Craig give a talk on the history of the occasion, and read the Declaration of Independence. Then we all raised a cup of lemonade, shouted "Huzzah!" and biked home. (Thankfully, with the wind at our back and downhill most of the way.)

Thundershowers may prohibit fireworks this year, but so far, we've had good luck carrying on our tradition of learning history in the community through live events with experts.

I wish all my American readers a Happy Fourth of July! What is your family tradition for celebrating this holiday?
