Homeschool groups should take precautions against swine flu

Thursday April 30, 2009
Homeschoolers naturally have a lower risk for contracting swine flu since they're not in schools everyday, but we need to take precautions to insure the safety of our children. Homeschool families gather frequently for park days, classes, field trips and other activities. Homeschool leaders should advise families to stay home if they are sick to protect the other families. Parents, if your children are sick, please keep them home from these activities. This is common sense and standard policy for group activities and now is a good time to adhere to these policies.

The CDC recommends:

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick
  • Stay home from work, school, and errands when you are sick
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing
  • Wash your hands often
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth
  • Get plenty of sleep, be physically active, manage your stress, drink plenty of fluids, and eat nutritious food
